Tyres is a high tech composite product that include up to 30 different kinds of rubber, antioxidants, textile elements, steel belts, beads and other components. In many cases the production process require deploying cutting edge materials technology at an industrial scale. Multiple carefully optimized rubber compounds are deployed in each tyre. These are combined with high quality steel and textile reinforcements to give the tyre its carefully balanced overall performance. Tyres are cured in a mould but they are far from being an injection moulding.
With so much effort going into the research and production process and given the extensive use of high quality materials we at Orbit believe that there is an extended life and use beyond being a tyre. At our modern facilities we have developed capabilities to extract several of the components and once processed and cleansed it should be regarded as virgin material; from waste to value and with repurposed performance.

The main content of the tyre is natural rubber and hence is the bulk of what we can recover in our process. With that said every manufacturer and previous application (car, truck, tractor etc.) has it's unique blend and additives. We have therefore invested heavily in our ability to sort and separate inbound material in our facilities enabling us to provide unique and guaranteed blends and even "single malt" qualities.
Steel represents 8-15% of the total tyre. The steel is high-carbon steel quality and can be separated and recovered in the recycling process. Our steel product is a very clean product and should be treated as virgin material and feeds in directly to our customers applications.
The textile is a mix of different materials; aramid, nylon, polyester, rayon and approximately 50% rubber. Textile content represents 10% of the total output. Recycled textile fibres are mainly used in connection with energy recovery (incineration). Recovering and recycling of these textiles are very much in the development phase interesting findings given it's excellent insulation properties.
