Steel

Steel represents 8-15% of the total tyre. The steel is high-carbon steel quality and can be separated and recovered in the recycling process. Our steel product is a very clean product and should be treated as virgin material and feeds in directly to our customers applications.

Steel wire is used in the tire belts and beads, and the plies for truck tires. The belts under the tread serve to stiffen the tire casing and improve wear performance and tire handling. The bead wire anchors the tire and locks it onto the wheel.

The steel from recycled tyre wire is a product that can be re-melted over and over again and thus through Orbit Materials gets a second, third or even more lives. The separated steel wires can be used in tunnel linings, hydraulic structures, bridge decks, pavements, slope stabilization and more. We can validate and confirm the quality of our steel and and therefore we consider it as virgin material.

Steel production is responsible for 11% of all CO2 emissions according to Carbon Brief which makes it one of the largest emitting industries and hence every tonne recovered and reused is a benefit for the climate and the world.
