Textile
Textile
Textiles in tires are various types of fabric cords that reinforce the tire. These textiles are polyester, rayon, nylon and aramid cord fabric.
The textiles are are used to make the tire plies in passenger tires. While they serve as the primary reinforcing material in the tire casing and they also help the tire keep its shape in different road conditions which provide added endurance and performance characteristics to the tire.
We recover these textiles as part of our process. Waste tire textile fibers (WTTF), as a by-product represents 10–15% by weight of end-of-life tires (ELT). Until now most of these textiles has been treated as hazardous wastes and traditionally burnt (energy recovery) or buried (landfilling). Thus, WTTF represent an important and interesting challenge in today’s material recycling streams. In recent years, tire textile fibers have attracted significant attention to be used as a promising substitute to the commonly used natural/synthetic reinforcement fibers in geotechnical engineering applications, construction/civil structures, insulation materials, and polymer composites.
